SCHULE FUER BLINDE UND SEHBENHINDERTE KINDER UND JUGENLICHE
A visit from Ingrid and Peter van Wittenberge in late 2008, has resulted in a link between the local school on Benguerra Island and the School for Blind and Sight Impaired Children and Youth in Zollikofen, Switzerland.
Funds have been raised towards the laying of water lines directly to the school & the children in Switzerland sent letters, maps and photos to the scholars on the island too. In response the Benguerra School had great fun creating their own letters with descriptions of their surrounds and sent gifts in the form of little beaded fish to the children in Zollikofen.
A translated letter to Zollikofen: Students of the Blind School in Switzerland, we thank you for the letters sent to us. Sadly our school is very poor - we don't have enough classrooms. Benguerra is a paradise where no snow falls. In school we don't have computers, all we have are our books. After homework we go fishing - an important source of income for the residents of Benguerra Island. Compliments to all in Switzerland!
What a wonderful way for children from two opposite walks of life to 'meet' and get to know each other - thank you Ingrid & and Peter!!
Kindest regards, Zadia
